Opening Hours of Crawford Market

As a public market building Crawford Market is actually open during normal business hours, so it is possible to visit at any time of the day.  However what you will see may depend on the time of your visit.

As fresh produce is brought into the market early in the morning, arriving fresh from farms in the countryside, it will be the mid or late morning when most attractive and impressive displays of fruits and vegetables will be seen.

Morning also has the big advantage that it will be cooler as inside the market itself there is no air-conditioning and ventilation only by ceiling fans making it hot in the middle of the day.

Opening Hours

The market is open every day starting very early, deliveries of fresh produce arrive by lorry at around 9AM and some stalls don’t open until later at around 10:30.

Most local people shopping for their daily food will arrive early but even in the afternoon the place is still busy. Avoid visiting at mid day when it is hottest.

It doesn’t close until late in the evening at round 8PM.

Exception is on Sunday when the market is only open during the morning.

Kipling Connection

Crawford Market shares an interesting connection with that great great representative of the British Empire in India, Mr Kipling. But not as you might have though, the author and journalist Rudyard Kipling, but his father John Lockwood Kipling.
